I AM (NOT)

Premiere: 31st March, Kino Šiška, Ljubljana

A coproduction of Slovenian and Hungarian artists I AM (NOT) is a cooperation between CoraViento and Maria Keck, an outstanding Hungarian dancer, singer, composer and master in choreography. Already becoming a renowned artist in Madrid, in her home-country and across the world, she brings in true uniqueness of vocal expression – flamenco enriched with Hungarian and Balkan Roma musical tradition.

The new performance I AM (NOT) is a dialogue between a singer, guitarist, percussionist, accordionist and dancers, and will be fully performed live. The purpose of the project is to present a new creative horizon with this unorthodox international group.

The show is mostly based on Maria Keck’s musical and dance work as she is the author of the main part of music and choreography. Her compositions are usually symbioses of melodies, flamenco guitar, jazz piano and percussions.

The director Urban Zorko describes the work as:

»A combination of live music and dance which represents a special creative challenge: fusion of traditional flamenco with an atypical (but carefully chosen) music combined under the enormously powerful presence of Maria Keck. It is to become the ultimate fusion of CoraViento's fascinations up to the present moment: the old school flamenco meets conceptually purified plot thread and an incredible imagination of Maria Keck. It is to be primarily a musical-dance performance, theatrically articulated and refined in its aesthetics that will, through movement and songs, contemplate reflection of the human being (and the creator) on the path of forging his/hers identity.

We will subdivide the scene into three levels that define us: the past (memories), the present (moment) and what is to be (our projections). At the end I would like to emphasize my eagerness over the combination of amazing talents brought together to one spot – we are lucky that this is possible. They are a never-ending source of imagination, doubtlessly guaranteeing one of the highlights of the upcoming dance season. «
